Intro assignment for 506
I created this image to represent my own pyramid of priorities in life. Apparently the USDA has updated the food pyramid into a new thing called "Choose My Plate" but I think most people still know and understand this version better.
The avatar kinda looks like me (courtesy of www.weeworld.com). First and foremost is my faith - my relationship with God is the most important thing in my life. Right beside that is my family. My wife and two sons mean more to me than anything else. The third category is teaching, symbolized by an apple surrounded by orbiting electrons - appropriate, I thought, for a Physics teacher. Finally come my hobbies and travel. I love soccer, snowboarding, camping, and being outdoors. Travel has been a big part of my life, having lived overseas for six years. My wife and I traveled throughout East and South-East Asia a lot, and we are looking forward to continuing that tradition as the boys grow older.
With regards to design, I wanted to use a clean, polished look that might mirror the style used in graphic design for web pages or applications - what I anticipate we will be doing throughout this 506 course. I started working in Fireworks, but ended up switching over to GIMP, partly because it takes a more layer-based approach, but also because I am already familiar with the program. However I do want to learn new skills and tools, so hopefully I will find some projects this course that I can delve into Fireworks or Illustrator.
